Kyzyl wants to discuss U.S. Energy Revolution Blueprint 6 months ago
Because I can't place video, here is its URL http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded and short desription: "To save the national economy hundreds of billions of dollars per year by 2050, the U.S. government should invest a few billion dollars more annually to foster energy technology innovations. This major recommendation from a three-year Harvard Kennedy School study argues that doubling energy RD&D spending to $10 billion/year will improve U.S. competitiveness and security in the energy arena and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Increased funding levels for PV, energy storage, and bioenergy technologies are essential, as are expanded incentives for private sector energy innovation and a substantial price on carbon emissions. The policy rationale is explained in this video".

Narsi posted a blog "Should be Protesting against Power Consumption, not Just Against Fossil Power" 8 months ago
I had the fortune to meet the principal energy advisor to the Rio Tinto group, one of the largest mining companies in the world.
An interesting Frenchman, he mantioned many insights during the 2 hour meeting...the one I remember most is what he said about power consumption. He felt that the rate of increase in power consumption is the biggest problem we face today worldwide. He mentioned that in France, over 40% of the power consumed today were for new applications when compared to consumption 20 years back. His view was that people should not just be protesting against nuclear…- View all 3 comments

Take into attention, please. Each kWh of produced energy consumes about 100 litres (average estimation) of fresh water in existing conditions now. By 2030, utilities worldwide will spend $378 billion on Smart Grids, according to Innovation Observatory ( http://www.innovationobservatory.com/sgpress2 ).
That's a heck of a lot of money. Smart grid is not a point-idea, but a fairly complex framework. What component of smart grid would most these billions go into?in Smart Grid

Short but nice article...and welcome back to CleanTick, Renga! There's no questioning that networking and security - where Cisco's core strengths lie - will play critical roles in the smart grids of tomorrow. Cisco is a 800 pound gorilla all right, but the building energy market is probably not where the gorilla can really use its skills... At the building energy level, I think it is more software than networking...I think Cisco will do much better where it more networking than software...which is pretty much where smart grid is...
