NZ Algae firm working on Omega-3 production

Auckland based Biotechnology company, Photonz, has taken a huge step in developing and commercializing its omega-3 fatty acid product, which is derived from marine microalgae. The fermentation process has been transferred to a Canadian facility which can operate multi-ton scale fermentations under industrial conditions and can also have successive harvests, which can produce more than 20 tons of the harvested product. The harvested biomass is to be shipped to France for purification. The product is expected to be manufactured in 2012 on an industrial scale and will be massive for the cardiovascular disease market. - read more
