Dynamic Fuels and Solazyme receive world’s largest advanced biofuels order from US Navy

The US Navy has placed what is touted to be the world’s largest advanced biofuel order of 450,000 gallons of renewable fuels to two companies- Dynamic Fuels and Solazyme. The contract calls for supplying the Navy with 100,000 gallons of jet fuels (Hydro-treated Renewable JP-5/HRJ-5) and 350,000 gallons of marine distillate fuel (Hydro-treated Renewable F-76/HRD-76). The fuel will go towards the Navy’s efforts to develop a “Green Strike Force”, which involves vessels and ships powered by biofuels. The fuel will be manufactured at Dynamic’s Louisiana plant using yellow grease and in the case of Solazyme, using its algae fuel technology. The fuel is expected to be delivered by May 2012. - read more
