Astaxanthin

Astaxanthin- the king of carotenoids, is the most powerful anti-oxidant in the carotenoid family. It is found naturally in shrimp, salmon, lobster etc which eat phytoplanktons like Haemotococcus and other algae. Astaxanthin can be extracted from the algae directly. Astaxanthin finds applications in the nutraceutical industry, pharmaceutical industry and as a food colorant. It is used as an animal feed additive to impart coloration to salmonids (salmon and trout), as well as to red sea bream and Tai. Recent studies have revealed that the wrinkling and moisturizing effect of astaxanthin can be used in the cosmeceutical applications in protection against skin aging.
