PLA or PLA composites could be a partially replacement for LDPE, HDPE, PP, PA , PET, PMMA and PUR.
PLA compares favorably to HDPE and LDPE in terms of its aroma barrier and grease resistance; it is also stiffer, has a higher modulus, but is more expensive.

While PLA fibers could replace PET and PP fibers, the PLA films could be a potential substitute for PP films. Compared to PS, PLA is less transparent with possibilities of elongation and breakage. Hence high impact resistant PLA could be a potential replacement in this regard.
PLA has good vapour barrier properties, reasonable impact resistance and good heat resistance as compared to PET. While PLA can't completely substitute PET, it could be blended with PET and hence it has a partial substitution potential for PET polymers.
