Guess one the simplest ways to arrive at a low cost algae harvesting is to change our way of thinking, and start looking at macroalgae instead of macroalgae. With macroalgae, all you need to do…

We need to not look at how many watts or gallons of fuel are being used in a production system. Sure anyone can do the math and try to reduce the energy using bottlenecks but that's really not solving the problem, it's minimizing the effect. To create a lowered cost per Kg of algae you really need to look at how EVERY SINGLE process in the system can be recycled into another one. For example in a non-profit pilot effort I'm creating all of the electricity is either run on solar power or a diesel generator. Well why in the world would you use a diesel generator to run electricity? All of the CO2 NOx gasses and PAH's get absorbed and recycled into algae biomass. This allows for a mostly complete cycle of carbon transfer. Well now we have a algae pilot plant that doesn't really absorb any CO2. How could this possibly be a carbon negative energy source if they're just recycling CO2 produced from fuel produced from algae? Well that's why we're trying to get most of the CO2 from outside sources. Taking activated carbon can be placed in small carbon dense regions such as a tail pipe. This will effectively clean the emissions and create a small tool by which to get CO2 into the algae system.
The amount of CO2 you can apply to an algae production system makes or breaks it. That's why CO2 is one of the most valuable resources in the algae market. By creating a completely recycled system the price will drop and profit margins will break these ridiculous standards of "$25/gallon."in Algae Fuels

Another way is by means of biogas production by anaerobic fermentatation of all organic residues and water waste of production bioprocess by means of a industrial biodigestor. Methane gas can be combusted and converted on electricity by motor generator fuelled by methane gas. In addition you can generate electricity by eolic turbine generators and efficient solar cells in locations that permit so.

True, macroalgae yields are lower than micro, but then that could be offset by lower costs of cultivation, harvesting and drying...in Algae Fuels

@kalpeshsharma - agreed, macro are not the best for oil, but then, you could ferment them for ethanol or gasify them for a range of hydrocarbons...on the second point, regarding much lower yields, you are bang on...the best macro yields I have heard of are only about 50% that of the likely micro yields, but the yields (50 dry tons per hectare per year is the best I have for macro) are much better than most other energy crops... But macro cultivation and harvesting are going to cost a lot less, so perhaps all said, the cost per unit of energy from macro could be pretty similar to that from micro? One "random" idea - can macro and micro algae be grown in the same environment - as many microalgae can be grown in saline environments too? This could lead to some synergies in cultivation and harvesting perhaps??

This novel algae harvesting system could dramatically reduce the energy cost necessary to harvest, dewater, and
dry algae and potentially transform the economics of algae-based biofuel production by removing a major barrier to
large-scale commercialization.

@narsi, excuse me, in previous posts I tried do this. See, please, e.g. the discussion about bottlenec in algae treatment.

As I remember, I tried to propose how to eliminate the bottleneck in the algae's separation and water. I've checked data from the article, to which I referred. It's working. On NSE machine I received around 1kWh/cbm of expenses. However for continuation is necessary to obtain additional information of algae's density in water's mixture and waters base's conductivity. Is it possible?
