Algae contain a wide range of photosynthetic pigments. Three major classes of photosynthetic pigments are chlorophylls, carotenoids (carotenes and xanthophylls) and phycobilins.

Genomatica at #1 in Hot 30 as final week in voting begins
Genomatica strengthened its grip on first place in the 30 Hottest Companies in Renewable Chemicals & Biomaterials rankings, as voting entered the final, furious week of balloting. Amyris returned to 2nd place after dropping to 4th last week, while Solazyme maintained itself in 3rd place, less than two tenths of 1 percent behind Amyris. Gevo slipped back into 4th place, while LS9 jumped into 5th position.
Rounding out the top ten in voting to date are Dupont, Novozymes, Codexis, Genencor, and ZeaChem.
