Sustainable Clixoo

Some brief updates on what's been happening over last few weeks...

I started this project with all the right intentions of showcasing what has been happening at Clixoo in the context of sustainability, but I find that I have little time to report on the good things over here...<br><br>For sure, some cool things have taken place...we have a Green Team now and they are going around putting up posters on the simple ways by which the folks in the company can be green and stuff like that...also, our internal company garden went through a couple of refurbishments...we also took out the solar panels we bought last year and plan to actually put it to us...<br><br>Writing in detail about all these and showcasing them in a neat way takes time, and I find I don't have much of that! Will try to steal time somehow and present more details on our sustainability activities over here...<br>

Checking Out Water Leaks in Clixoo

I had noticed that in the various washrooms, there is a significant amount of water leakage Most of these appear to be easily solvable, with a bit of basic plumbing repairs. I have intimated folks at the office to get a plumber at the earliest to repair all the leaks There must be over 50 such flats in our apartment, and I am wondering how many of these have such leaks...just imagine the amount of water that must literally be going down the drain everyday.
I am hoping that we will get our washroom plumbing repairs done soon enough so that I can go to sleep with much less guilt feelings!

Clixoo Sustainability Resolutions for 2011

The following are the sustainability resolutions for Clixoo for 2011 - from my point of view, that is - other Clixoo folks are welcome to put in their suggestions:
1. Waste segregated at source and organic / biodegradable waste turned into fertilizer and used for our own company gardens
2. Folks consume much less coffee and a lot more water
3. We reduce, reuse and recycle waste - to some extent, we are already doing it, but I'd request out green team to come up with more ideas to enhance this
4. Many people in the company contribute to CleanTick - this alone can make each one of us more conscious about sustainability - "you are what you write" - all right, that was just now coined by me...
5. Each one of us takes small measures to make their personal surroundings more green, clean and sustainable. I think could end up in something big - each of us takes small and affordable steps, resulting in huge benefits. Let's try this out, friends.
Other suggestions are welcome.

Practising Transcendental Meditation at Office

One of the ideas that Clixoo's green team came up with was to have 2 meditation sessions per day for all those who are interested.
The moment I heard about, I knew it was a good idea. Quickly after some initial discussions, we informed everyone in the company that whoever is in the office at 8AM and 4 PM were invited to participate in the group meditation.
We chose to follow Transcendental Meditation, pioneered by Maharshi Mahesh Yogi - link . While there are critics of TM, I had found that it was a simple and easily practised form of meditation Anyway, for the time being, our company has decided to follow TM.
For the past one week, I am glad to see a dozen of us regularly assemble at 4 to meditate for about 20 minutes. I have little doubt that this will result in a much healthier and more productive Clixoo.

Creatiing Awareness among Kids

All right, this was not about making Clixoo sustainable, but Clixoo taking the initiative of spreading the S-word among kids in Chennai.
We had about 20 kids from two city schools in Chennai participating in an interactive session on sustainability and renewable energy. Three teams each (8th and 9th grades) from Vidya Mandir and DAV participated in a quiz and debate competition at our office at Nungambakkam yesterday (24 Dec). It was fun, and it was amazing to know that the kids actually knew quite a lot about sustainability, at least in rudimentary sense.
We plan to hold more such events in the future...I am hoping that Clixoo can set a trend where more bright people in Chennai start undertaking such awareness programs especially for schools in Chennai and elsewhere around the world too!

The Company Garden in Clixoo

We have allocated a small space (about 10 sq meters) of our office for a nice, in-house garden. Right now, it is just nice grass growing there, but it provides an excellent sight to eyes.

You can see that the garden occupies a small space of our main hall in the office. But having a green thing right in your workspace gives a different feeling, and it also gives a cool appearance to the office.

I co-founded Clixoo in 2007 and we are currently a small team of about 20 people working towards providing sustainability support solutions.

Sustainable Clixoo is a project in which I will detail the various green and clean things we are doing at Clixoo.

I am hoping that this will serve as an inspiration to many more such companies worldwide and make the companies greener, cleaner and more sustainable
