For the past year or so I have been interested in algaes ability of carbon sequestration. It has developed into a full blooming company over the course of 2 years. This all started from a science fair projcet of mine in 8th grade about carbon in the environment. Im now in 10th grade and have scaled algae tanks up to 800 gallons. By using my own special technique of utilizing artificial light, I have made the yield of oils at about 2.2 gallons per day. From this I can make about 2.5 gallons of diesel fuel…PER DAY.

I wanted to try to scale up my project to actually make big bucks but ran into finnancial barriers. To build a fully operational 2 acre algae pilot plant, the minimum is about $100,000. So naturally I though hey, why not make diesel out waste vegetable oil from my school, and sell it to the bus company? So thats exactly what I did. Just today (October 5 2011) I talked with the local manager of my schools bus company. He said after incremental tests of our biodiesel he will be more than happy to run 5 busses on biodiesel (B100).

With the funds from the waste vegetable oil project, I can start the algae biodiesel project, the main event. Utilizing my artificial lighting techniques, I can about 1.5 grams of oil for every 100 grams of water per day. This means that I can produce about 6,000-12,000 of oil PER DAY. With this much diesel fuel, we hope to support our inner-city bussing company and the Metro-transit. For every pound of diesel created, a net absorption of 1 pound of CO2 is absorbed from the atmospere.
